When I was a child, my teacher said “Give someone a smile and you will make them happy”.
It was a difficult sentence to understand at 8 years old. I could not explain what the strength and richness of a smile could be. Then I started my Erasmus.
Have you ever tried to smile at stranger on the street? It’s a wonderful feeling.
I was walking through the warm streets of Seville. It was a wonderful day full of people on the streets. I felt really happy, that happiness that you feel in the most beautiful period of your life. I began to smile at everyone: hyperactive children and busy mothers, stressed and nice old men, young students or old ladies.
Some pass by indifferently, perhaps immersed in thousands of everyday thoughts or perhaps simply because they are distracted. They are not bad people at all. Others, on the other hand, look at you surprised, they didn’t expect such a beautiful and spontaneous gesture. They asked me for information. They made me a joke or smiled back at me.
A gesture so simple and so neglected.
My teacher said: “Give someone a smile and you will make them happy”. And yes, she was absolutely right.
The secret of a happy life lies in people. So go out on the street, leave the phone at home and smile.
